Polyolefin Catalysts

Ecovyst Polyolefin Catalysts and Supports

Ecovyst is a leading supplier of chrome-on-silica catalysts, modified chrome catalysts and Ziegler-Natta Catalysts, widely used in the polymerization of ethylene into polyethylene.

Ecovyst silica supports are used in the production of chrome, Ziegler-Natta Catalysts and single site catalysts that are subsequently used to manufacture polyethylene in both gas-phase and slurry-phase processes.

With a long manufacturing history in polyolefin catalysis, Ecovyst prides itself on being a reliable supplier that offers consistently high quality products and continuously works with customers in the development of innovative polymer grades. Through the careful control of critical process steps, Ecovyst produces consistent and uniform products that fully meet today’s demanding customer needs.

Silica Supports

Ecovyst silica supports are used in the production of chrome, Ziegler-Natta and single site catalysts for gas and slurry processes. A range of manufacturing processes gives Ecovyst unrivaled flexibility in tailoring the properties of these products.

In the production of polymers, the surface area, pore volume, and pore diameter of the catalyst support strongly influences the polymerization characteristics and final polymer properties. Accurate control of the particle size distribution is also extremely important since the growing polymer replicates the shape and size distribution of the silica catalyst particles.

Ecovyst’s global manufacturing operations have both the experience and the technical expertise to develop and manufacture products that meet the specifications demanded whilst exhibiting very low statistical variance. Four manufacturing processes gives Ecovyst unrivaled flexibility in tailoring support properties.

To support the global polyethylene industry, our well-equipped analytical centers measure all critical silica properties, including surface area/pore volume, particle size, shape and strength, elemental composition and thermal and structural properties. Key polymer properties, including rheology, density and ESCR can also be measured.

Bench scale polymerization reactors are available to accurately simulate continuous plant processes to allow for the rapid evaluation of new catalysts & supports without the need to utilize critical plant equipment. Polymer processing laboratories, equipped to compound polymers and manufacture a range of test films and plaques, are available to evaluate and optimize polymer formulations and provide comparative performance analysis.

Ziegler-Natta Catalysts for PE

Based on more than five decades of polyethylene catalyst development and manufacturing, Ecovyst’s Z- CAT series of catalysts enables robust and reliable LLDPE and HDPE production in both gas-phase and slurry-phase processes.

Due to high activity, Z-CAT catalysts offer a very favourable balance of cost in use and operability. The well designed particle morphology and monodispersed particle size distribution of Z-CAT catalysts ensures the smooth operations and maximum line capacity utilization required by polyethylene producers.

Z-CAT catalysts produce materials across the full density range, suitable for a broad range of applications. Excellent powder morphology even at very low density and a tunable molecular weight distribution means that resins produced with the Z-CAT range of catalysts fully meet today’s demanding customer needs.
