Within fuels & emission control, our products help to meet increasingly strict emission control requirements. Zeolites are also highly adaptable for use in key processes for production of renewable fuels.
Refining
Zeolites are widely used as catalysts in the refining of crude oil into finished petroleum products.
Because of their high selectivity, zeolite catalysts are often the most efficient and cost-effective method for a number of refinery conversions, particularly in upgrading refinery streams into high-octane gasoline blending stock. The properties of zeolites uniquely suit them for tailoring to specific applications.

Emission Control
The unique properties and selectivity of zeolites can provide effective solutions for environmental pollution by minimizing the production of pollutants and by secondary treatment of the effluents produced.
Environmental
Many of the gains made by the current generation of environmental technologies are being offset by the growth of industrialized populations. Consequently, new and creative pollution prevention and abatement methods are under investigation.
Several areas in which zeolites show strong environmental potential are:
- Reduction of atmospheric NOx
- Reduction of atmospheric VOC’s (including automotive cold start)
- Process improvements in the chemical industry
Zeolyst International can provide zeolite products for the following:
- NOx Reduction Catalysts
- Custom Powders and Catalysts
Automotive
As vehicles, their engines, and their fuels are redesigned to reduce the creation of pollutants, so too are zeolites being designed and employed to handle the new concentrations, combinations, and conditions of combustion products. One example involves the use of efficient, oxygen-rich, lean-burn diesel engines, which produce less CO2, a greenhouse gas. Metal-exchanged zeolite catalysts have been employed on these vehicles as a less costly and more effective option for NOx removal than the three-way catalytic converter.
Another emerging zeolite technology is lean NOx, a catalytic process that uses hydrocarbons such as methane and higher hydrocarbons as the reductant, making it practical for automotive and other mobile sources.

Renewable Fuels
As global focus shifts to lower carbon alternatives, interest in renewable fuels has accelerated. Renewable fuels are produced from a wide variety of organic feedstocks, such as vegetable oils, used cooking oil and animal fats.
Zeolites can play an important role in renewable fuel production processes. Ecovyst, through the Zeolyst International partnership, is uniquely positioned to provide custom zeolite solutions to companies developing technology for renewable fuel production, elevating efficiency and performance.
Zeolyst International is always open to partner with you for the development of new custom catalyst solutions for your application.
